Tooth Colored Resin Fillings

Composite Fillings, A Quick and Easy Cavity Treatment

Most cavities can be filled in one day to restore the health of a decayed tooth. Having your tooth filled eliminates pain, restores your tooth’s function, and protects it from future decay. At Titus Dentistry, serving Anderson, Pendleton, Muncie, and Middletown, Indiana, we treat cavities with white composite tooth fillings as they’re quick and easy to apply, and effective in protecting your teeth from future cavities.

About Composite Fillings

Compared to silver amalgam fillings, which have been around for over 150 years, composite restorations are relatively new and quite different in composition and appearance. Unlike silver amalgam fillings, which are a mixture of metal and mercury, composite fillings are composed of a resin material mixed with powdered quartz or glass filler. They’re also white, instead of silver, in appearance. Your white tooth filling can be customized to match the color of your natural teeth so that it blends right in when you smile. A discreet appearance is one reason for the popularity of composite fillings. Other reasons include:

  • Longevity – With proper care, composite fillings can last up to 10 years before needing to be replaced
  • Less drilling – Composite fillings don’t require much drilling as the resin material bonds easily and securely to your teeth, making the filling less likely to come loose
  • Strength and durability – Composite fillings are strong enough to endure years of biting, chewing, and grinding food. They also strengthen your teeth while protecting them from decay

Composite Filling Process

Dental filling treatment generally requires a local anesthetic to prevent pain during your procedure. After numbing the area, Dr. Titus will remove decay and replace the missing tooth structure with composite resin. This material is applied in layers and molded to the shape of your tooth for a natural-looking appearance. After every layer, Dr. Titus will cure your filling using ultraviolet light. Upon completion of your treatment, your tooth will be restored and ready for use.
