Are you missing teeth in your smile? If you are tired of looking in the mirror each day to see unattractive gaps in your smile, it is time to consider a tooth replacement option. Several options are available for you in the Anderson, Indiana area, but no option is more immediate than a partial denture. If you have had an extraction or lost a tooth for any other reason, Dr. Jonathan Titus and the team at Titus Dentistry would like to tell you more about how partial dentures can fill in your smile.
A partial denture functions similarly to full dentures, but the difference lies in that they are smaller. A full denture replaces an entire arch of teeth, while partial dentures replace small sections of missing teeth.
For example, let’s assume you are missing four to five teeth. These missing teeth have created a significant gap in your smile. A partial denture will be crafted to fill that gap and complete your smile.
Similar to full dentures, a partial denture is created to look natural. The shade of the artificial teeth will be designed to match the shade of your natural teeth, and they will reside on a base that rests on your gums. A fastener on each side of the partial denture will anchor onto the natural tooth on either side of the gap to hold the denture in place. It is easily removable for cleaning, but it will be secure when in place, so you do not need to worry about it falling out.
Although it may seem similar to a dental bridge, they are not quite the same. While both are crafted to fill a gap in your smile, dental bridges are permanently fixed. A partial denture is removable. The teeth on either side of the gap must be altered to hold the dental bridge in place. This is not the case with a partial denture.
