Records Appointment – Post-Op Instructions

- A records appointment provides the diagnostic foundation for comprehensive treatment planning. It may include digital or PVS impressions, full photography, bite records, facebow transfer, and muscle/occlusal screening. These procedures are noninvasive but can temporarily fatigue oral structures.
- You may experience mild soreness where retractors contacted the lips or cheeks. This resolves within hours. If you received PVS impressions, slight temporary gum irritation or fatigue of the gag reflex can occur. No treatment is required.
- Bite record procedures may require holding the jaw in specific positions. If a deprogrammer was used before capturing centric relation, your jaw muscles may feel temporarily tired or slightly stiff. This resolves within 24 hours.
- There are no dietary or activity restrictions. You may resume normal oral hygiene immediately.
- If impression material remains between teeth after removal, gently remove it with floss.
- If a facebow is used, slight pressure on the ear canal may be noticed for several hours. This is expected and self-resolving.
- These records allow your dentist to evaluate occlusion, airway, joint stability, and esthetics in alignment with the comprehensive exam structure used in your practice. No specific post-visit care is required beyond routine home care.
- Call if gum irritation persists beyond 48 hours or if the bite feels significantly different after the deprogramming portion of the appointment.
