Occlusal Splint Delivery – Post-Op Instructions
Home » Occlusal Splint Delivery – Post-Op Instructions
- An occlusal splint reduces muscle hyperactivity, protects teeth from grinding, and stabilizes the bite. Wear the splint as directed—typically at night unless instructed otherwise.
- Initial jaw or muscle soreness is normal for several days. This reflects muscle adaptation. If soreness increases or persists beyond one week, call for an adjustment.
- Insert and remove the splint using your fingers, not your teeth. Clean daily using mild soap and cold water. Avoid using hot water, alcohol-based solutions, or abrasive cleaners.
- Do not eat or drink anything except water while wearing the splint. Store the splint in its case when not in use.
- If the splint feels tight, loose, or uneven, or if your bite feels different in the morning, schedule an adjustment. Occlusal harmony is critical, consistent with your Dawson-based occlusal philosophy. A splint that alters the bite long-term without supervision can destabilize the system.
- Bring the splint to every recall visit for evaluation and review. The device may require periodic refinements as tooth position and wear patterns change.
- Call if the splint cracks, develops rough edges, or no longer seats fully.
