• Expect an adaptation period. Full dentures rely on muscle coordination, saliva, and tissue fit. Sore spots are common. Return for adjustments as needed; do not “tough it out.”
  • Wear your dentures during the day and remove them at night to allow the tissues to rest. Start with soft foods. Cut food into small pieces.
  • Chew slowly on both sides to stabilize the denture. Avoid sticky foods until adaptation improves.
  • Speech may feel different initially. Reading aloud helps adaptation.
  • Clean dentures daily with a denture brush and non-abrasive cleanser. Do not use toothpaste. Brush gums, tongue, and palate with a soft toothbrush.
  • If adhesive is needed, use only a small amount. Excessive adhesive indicates improper fit and requires adjustment.
  • Follow-up appointments are essential for checking pressure spots and evaluating the bite. Long-term bone changes occur; dentures may require relining over time.
  • Call if sore spots worsen, dentures become loose, or ulcers develop.
